Oregon Spirits Visit


While down in Bend Oregon for a rugby tournament this summer we decided to check out the Oregon Spirit Distillers. Oregon Spirit Distillers formed in 2009. They pride themselves on using locally sourced grains and water from the Cascades. With one of the largest whiskey barrels inventories in Oregon, Oregon Spirit will most likely have what you want whether it’s a nice wheat or rye whiskey or a tasty bourbon. Of course, I tried the bourbon.   

               The tasting room was clean and inviting. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. They host a number of concerts and such throughout the year on the property, unfortunately we were a day early and missed one. Unlike some of the other tasting rooms I have been that offer pours of their liquors, Oregon Spirit offers mini cocktail’s featuring their spirts. It works out for those who may not be into straight spirit tasting

               I sampled the Bourbon Bottle and Bond. To be considered Bottled in Bond the spirit must be a product of one distillation season and one distiller from one distillery. It must be barreled and stored in bonded warehouses under the U.S. government supervision for no less than 4 years and the alcoholic strength of the spirit in bottle must not be less than 100 proof. Neat this bourbon definitely had a little heat to it on the back side, but with a hint of vanilla. After I added an ice cube and let it air out the whole flavor profile changed.  Hints of caramel mixed with vanilla on the front of the tongue with a nice smooth heat finish.

               If you happen to be in Bend, I recommend stopping by Oregon Spirit Distillers and taking in a show or tour. As for the Bottle and Bond Bourbon it is tasty and packs a punch but is a little high on the price point at $50 a bottle, but worth the purchase.  Pour yourself a glass and enjoy!

Well 80's "Olympias Best Mustache Contest" 2018

My kids are offended with my mustache! They get irritated with random people chatting me up over my ‘stache in the grocery store, picking them up from school, or even walking around downtown Olympia. One of the things they are always saying is why do people keep asking you if you compete? I never really thought about competing, my ‘stache was requested by my fiancé and also I had no idea about how competing works. Hash on the Westside

In addition to good bourbon, I love a great breakfast spot! Unfortunately, there are few real breakfast joints in town. Luckily for us a new spot opened in West Olympia called Hash . Hash opened up over the summer and has been packed ever since! The menu is simple and has something for everyone, including kids, and offers several vegan plates. We went in for Sunday breakfast around 10:30 am and the restaurant was packed with many names on the waiting list. We sat outside and enjoyed the summer sun until our table was ready. The staff were polite and quick. Once seated we got our drinks and looked over the menu. The smells and atmosphere was chill.
