Hash on the Westside
In
addition to good bourbon, I love a great breakfast spot! Unfortunately, there are
few real breakfast joints in town. Luckily for us a new spot opened in West
Olympia called Hash. Hash
opened up over the summer and has been packed ever since! The menu is simple
and has something for everyone, including kids, and offers several vegan
plates.
We went
in for Sunday breakfast around 10:30 am and the restaurant was packed with many
names on the waiting list. We sat outside and enjoyed the summer sun until our
table was ready. The staff were polite and quick. Once seated we got our drinks
and looked over the menu. The smells and atmosphere was chill. As we pondered
over what to order a huge piece of cornbread delivered to our table! It was
interesting, almost like a cornbread cake with strawberry whipped butter. We
decided on our orders; the Mojado Burrito and the Traditional Benedict.
The
Mojado Burrito is a wheat tortilla full of scrambled eggs, applewood smoked
ham, green chilies, refried bean, Yukon gold potatoes and smoked gouda wrapped
up and topped with a jalapeno hollandaise. Everything about this burrito was
amazing, not to mention its ginormous size! The jalapeno hollandaise, was
creamy with just a hint of heat. This was definitely a fork and knifer with a
perfect ratio of all ingredients from start to finish.
The
Traditional Benedict was of equal standard delivered with a side of Yukon gold
potatoes sautéed with onions and peppers. Nothing out of the ordinary about
this meal but the preparation was perfect. The poached eggs were just done and
the ham was nice and thick. Although it is traditional, they managed to make it
their own flavor, as it was topped on an English muffin with refried beans as
the glue.
If you
are out and about and find yourself in West Olympia, Wednesday through Sunday
between 7am and 1pm, stop in and have some breakfast! The price is great for
the portions and although you may have to wait it will be worth it. This is a
great family friendly spot! In the mean time pour yourself a glass and enjoy!
