Hyped about Well 80 Pubhouse in Olympia

After a long fun filled day of rugby (winning I may add) there is nothing better than a great meal! Being national beer day, my fiancé and I wanted to give the new Well 80 Brewhouse in downtown Olympia a try. We figured they would have a decent burger or some wings and a few beers on tap…oh no this brew house is much more than that!

My fiancé has amazing parents so we invited them along to join us on this adventure! As we waited for them, and our table, we ordered some drinks and sat next to the fire for a friendly match of scrabble. Well 80 is an all ages brewery and pub in Olympia serving craft beers, burgers, pizzas and sandwiches. They produce their own brews right on site using water form one of Olympias famous Artesian wells.

As we sat relaxing I couldn’t help but notice what an amazing cozy place this is. The walls have huge murals paying tribute to Olympia Beer and its famous saying “It’s the Water”. The pub is divided into a family area, a bar area and a relaxing little sitting area complete with a fire place and board games. They had a few TV’s in the bar area so you can catch your local sports team in action like the Seattle Seawolves. Over the dozens of conversations and tons of laughter you could hear a steady stream of Metallica, Pearl Jam and the like over the sound system.

Let’s start with the beers! Even in the waiting area the service was amazing! They have four beers of their own on tap, eight local “guest” taps and a cider along with an assortment of wines for you to choose from. I enjoy dark beers so I ordered a 10oz of the “Belgian Dark Strong”. This beer is a collaboration with another great Olympia brewery 3 Magnets (which is right up the street). The beer has great color and refreshing almost sweet scent. It has a very smooth slightly sweet finish and comes in at a whopping 9.9% alcohol, it comes in a 5oz or 10oz serving.  My fiancé enjoyed a cider from Whitewood Cider here in downtown (her favorite local cider brewing company – look forward to another blog coming about their tiny taproom).

As our scrabble game was going strong we decided to take it to the table with us to continue. We decided on another round of drinks and ordered several appetizer’s. We went with the pretzel and some Drive-in style tots. The pretzel came with Well 80 Cheese Sauce, German Stone Ground Mustard and Roasted Pineapple Habanero sauce. The roasted pineapple habanero sauce was the winner of this dish although everything was great. The pretzel was soft on the inside and perfectly crisp on the outside. The Drive-in Style tots were just regular tots but were served with an awesome Chipotle bacon ranch and Drive-in sauces. The tots were just your ordinary tots cooked well with a nice crunch. The sauces were tasty and all together it was a great appetizer for our group to share.

For our main course we decided to go with the Da Shaka pizza. It was big enough to share but not to big to order on your own while you enjoy watching some rugby on the TV while sitting at the bar. The Da Shaka has a roasted pineapple habanero sauce that was out of this world covered with mozzarella cheese, prosciutto, oven roasted tomatoes, garlic and herbs. The sauce is a perfect blend of spice and sweetness to calm the saltiness of the prosciutto. All flavors created a magnificent pie!

Well 80 Brewpub is a great addition to downtown Olympia! The family friendly atmosphere makes it a great option with the kids or for a grown-up date night! Go on in and have yourself an adventure and have them pour you a drink and enjoy.
